About MUWRP

The Makerere University Walter Reed Program (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through high-quality health research, disease surveillance, and health systems strengthening. Established in 2002, MUWRP initially focused on biomedical and clinical research aimed at testing HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has expanded to include research on Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza-like illnesses, and other emerging infectious diseases in both humans and animals. MUWRP also conducts implementation research on HIV prevention, care, and treatment in six Ugandan districts.
